Institutional Development Plan
The Surendranath Law college has been continuously working on developmental aspects of the institution on different fronts in view of imparting quality legal education. The areas of focus include development of the library, initiative on green & disable friendly campus, use of modern technologies and learning tools in class rooms, use of renewable energy resources, introduction of unique and career-based add-on courses, skill development and value education programmes, organising regular moot court competitions and legal-aid camps etc. Accordingly, the IQAC of the college proposed a number of initiatives to be implemented in near future.
- The college has a well-equipped library containing books and journals of high academic standards catering to the academic and research needs of the students and faculty. There are plans of future upgradation of the library by subscribing to reputed online journals and creating a database to facilitate legal research. There are plans to add in the number of existing computers in the library for smooth access of online resources by the students and faculty members.
- The Government of West Bengal has allotted a land measuring about 51 kothah to the College in Newtown Rajarhat area and the land is already registered in the name of Surendranath Law college. The College aims to start its new campus in near future.
- The new college campus would be conforming to green building code of environmental sustainability and preservation. There would be the provisions of solar roof top panels, rain water harvesting, energy conservation, disable friendly equipment in the new campus. The college aims to establish in future separate hostels for boys’ and girls’ students.
- The college conducts various certificate courses for students and its alumni for the enhancement of various professional as well as soft skills, which are indispensable for the 21st century knowledge economy. The college also started organising value education courses with help of its MoU partners. At present the college conducts 9 value added courses (VAC). In future the college seeks to increase the number of value-added courses by launching industry relevant courses for the lawyers’ community pertaining to arbitration, cyber law, maritime law, medical jurisprudence etc.
- Dedicated sports facilities catering to both indoor and outdoor games would be established which would play a pivotal role in the holistic vision of attainment of both physical and cognitive development of the students.
- The career counselling cell would be made more effective to facilitate the opportunities such as internships in prestigious law firms for the students of the college. The career counselling cell would also play an instrumental role in creating collaborations with professional institutes for developing opportunities of internship and placement of the students.
- The college aims to strengthen the research cell to foster the spirit of innovation in emerging domains of law such as digital law, cyber security, AI (artificial intelligence), to name a few besides undertaking analyses in traditional legal domains.
- Well-equipped information technology infrastructure would be created along with the subscription of the best of national as well as international legal academic resources to further the endeavour of academic excellence and foster the spirit of research and development of all stakeholders of the college.
- The college with the aim of securing the career prospects of students, seeks to establish in future a dedicated centre imparting guidance for competitive examinations such as judicial services exams, UGC-NET, & civil services.
- The college shall actively pursue collaborative ventures with other reputed institutions of higher learning to inculcate legal awareness amongst students on foundational concepts of constitutional law, human rights, duties and obligations of an Indian citizen.
- The college aims to obtain necessary affiliation to offer Ph.D. courses in future in various disciplines law.
- A psychological counselling centre under the supervision of trained psychologist would be created for the purpose of conducting various workshops related to stress management, developing emotional quotient, and sensitising students, faculty and legal professionals.
- The college has a coherent policy on faculty retention and faculty development. The College has been reviewing the policy so that the faculty is actively encouraged to participate in seminars, conferences, symposiums for enhancement of their academic and research credentials. The college plans to increase the conducts various workshops for skill upgradation & personality development of its faculty members.
