The goal of Surendranath Law College is to give students a comprehensive legal education that will enable them to become more knowledgeable and skilled advocates in many contexts.
Knowing how important it is for students to develop their leadership abilities, Surendranath Law College makes sure that as many of its students as possible are on committees, which encourages them to participate in the various events that are organized.
Surendranath Law College also makes an attempt to identify the learning level of the students in the first semester. A bridge course for newly admitted students is conducted every year before the commencement of the first semester classes. The purpose of this Course is not only to bridge the gap between subjects studied previously and the subject to be studied in the programme, but also to clarify and revise the fundamental concept of the course.
Practicing advocates, legal luminaries, academicians and Non-Governmental Organizations are invited to deliver the lectures. The seminars and guest lectures are organized every month in order to inculcate a sense of learning and research habits amongst the students.
There are various committees and cells in the college, like grievance redressal cell, eco club, debate and quiz club, cultural committee, placement cell, anti-ragging cell, extension activity committee, moot court club etc. and these clubs and committees perform various programmes throughout the year. Besides, various important days like Independence Day, Republic Day, Teachers’ Day, National Youth Day, Constitutional Day, Forest Day, International Mother Language Day, International Women’s Day etc are also observed. College also organizes blood donation camp, legal aid camp, road safety awareness, traffic awareness camp, community health check up camp, tree plantation, adventure camp, environment awareness programme, awareness programmes on drug addiction, child labour etc. and other such activities every year to provide for creative inclusive environment. The college has a legal aid club and with collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Kolkata, free legal aid and legal assistance are given to the adjacent people every Tuesday in the college campus. Besides, legal aid camp has also been organised by the college in the remote areas. The college also take part in various extension activities, like free food and clothes to the poor, visit to old age home etc.
Keeping the ever-changing trend, ICT based teaching methods and infrastructural development has been followed.
The Institution has a prescribed code of conduct displayed on website. Committee monitors its adherence.
The College has taken initiatives to organize Seminar, Webinars, Workshop, Sensitization Programme, Faculty Development Programme, awareness programme on sexual Harassment etc. College has also introduced the Value-Added Certificate Course on various topics which are covered by the curriculum. The College has made various MoUs with other academic institution and NGOs to exchange the students and faculty as well as other research activities.
The slow learners are provided with remedial lectures to help them in solving their difficulty in understanding different concepts. Hence, our Institution conducts such activities to cater to the needs of the students and also to ensure their Holistic Development.
