The Debate Club Welcomes All Students in this Open Platform to Explore the Power of Voice and Argumentation

Debate competitions are invaluable for law students as they simulate real-world scenarios that will be encountered in legal practice. As students engage in public speaking, it invariably initiates an enriching experience of learning, critical thinking, effective dialogue and argumentation and the ability to articulate complex ideas concisely and clearly.

The Debate Club’s main objective is to enhance articulation and speech delivery skills and build leadership qualities which is essential for success in legal advocacy, negotiation, and courtroom presentations. Also importantly, the Club aims to foster confidence and adaptability among students and develop crucial qualities in them required for navigating the dynamic and competitive field of law.

The Debate Club selects academically, politically and socio-economically relevant topics of the current and contemporary times. It strives to nurture a spirit of enquiry within students. It is expected that such events not only make students confident in public speaking, but also keep them informed and updated about social, political and economic issues of national and global importance.

ROLE AND DUTIES OF THE DEBATE CLUB

  • To organize regular debate competitions and increase student participation.
  • To select academically, politically and socio-economically relevant topics of the current and contemporary times which have significance at the national and global level.
  • To ensure that the students acquire an increased level of confidence through these participations.
  • To be responsible for the smooth running of the club and the setting of the calendar of events.
  • To prepare the yearly schedule of the programmes to be held in each semester at the beginning of the academic session and submit the same to the undersigned within 30th April.
  • To submit the report of the programmes within 15 days after completion of the programme.
  • To nourish the spirit of enquiry within students and increase general awareness and knowledge among students.
  • To train and prepare students to participate in various competitions within and outside the college.
  • To organize a minimum of two programmes at the intra and inter college level in a year.
